BARIATRIC SURGERY:

TYPES:

Sleeve Gastrectomy and Gastric Bypass both surgeries involve the minimally invasive technique of removing a portion of the stomach in the earlier case by cutting a small portion of the stomach and connecting it to the small intestine. Studies show that these two procedures have given long-term relief and 50% to 60% loss of weight; also giving a lot of advantages and recovery from other diseases namely diabetes, efficient cardiovascular conditions, and reduction in mortality from almost 40% to 23%.

Lap Band Surgery (LPBG):

A laparoscopic adjustable gastric band commonly known as a lap band, A-band, or LAGB is an inflatable silicone device placed around the top portion of the stomach to treat obesity, in order to reduce the calorie intake of the body.

Gastric banding is a laparoscopic surgical procedure that requires only a few keyholes to be made into the stomach resulting in lesser pain, few scars, faster recovery, and shorter stay at the hospital. It is completely a reversible process with a keyhole operation.

Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal switch (BPD/DS) Gastric Bypass:

The Biliopancreatic Diversion with duodenal abbreviated as BPD/DS is a surgical procedure with two steps. Firstly a tubular section of the stomach is created by removing a significant portion of the stomach, which is very similar to sleeve gastrectomy. Next, a large portion of the small intestine is bypassed.

In this way, both food intake, as well as calorie and nutrient intake of the body, are restricted resulting in a significant amount of weight loss.
